With the UK cost of living, inflation and savings at the front of most people’s minds, the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) is announcing the New Year launch of Financial Planning Week 22-28 January 2024.

Educational charity and professional body CISI is encouraging the UK financial planning community, led by CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professionals, to support Financial Planning Week by increasing awareness of the benefits of qualified financial guidance.

The 2024 UK Financial Planning Week (22-28 January) will focus on busting myths around financial planning and encouraging conversation around finances. The aim is to help consumers take control of their finances now, to shape their future and reach their goals.

Sally Plant, CISI Assistant Director, Financial Planning and Education Development said: "Financial literacy is an essential life skill to help us all manage our money. Financial planning is intrinsically linked to financial literacy in offering the guidance and helping hand we all need to maintain overall well-being and financial fitness. New Year goals often include joining a gym, starting up new health regimes, it is imperative that financial planning becomes part of the New Year routine too.”

“Financial Planning Week helps raise awareness about the role of qualified financial planners in helping people from all walks of life, and all ages – and importantly, not just the wealthy – to think ahead and plan for the future."

This follows recent research conducted by Financial Planning Standards Board and supported by CISI, which found improved financial well-being a key factor in alleviating stress across generations.

Financial Planners UK-wide can support the campaign by:

  • Hosting a free one-hour financial planning session and sharing this on their social channels
  • Sharing tips, tools, and articles on personal finance topics
  • Heading into their local schools to talk about financial literacy
  • Share the importance of finding a professional, qualified financial planner to help them take control of their finances
  • Reaching out to local press about Financial Planning Week

In previous years, the drive has been to encourage UK financial planners to offer pro-bono guidance. Whilst this fantastic initiative continues, the major focus this year is around the overall messaging to consumers of the importance of finding a professional, qualified financial planner to help them take control of their finances.

This year, efforts will be focused on driving people to find out more about the positive benefits of financial planning, and heading to CISI’s find a financial planner Wayfinder website www.financialplanning.cisi.org. The resource listing allows consumers across the UK to search for their nearest CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional or CISI Accredited Financial Planning FirmTM (AFPF). The aim is to put the power into the hands of the consumer, with tips and tools also featuring on the website for anyone to browse through.

The CISI is again looking to its financial planning community for their support in sharing the many benefits of financial planning. The community is encouraged to be involved by posting using the #FPWUK social media awareness campaign and sending in tips, tools or guides to FPWeek@cisi.org. A toolkit will soon be released to CISI financial planners, so that the message can be shared widely, including resource to help introduce the conversation around money at a young age.
