Attend our YPN event to earn 90 mins CPD
We can often be put off by the thought of entering a room full of people and struggle with the idea that we may not be able to sufficiently contribute to a conversation. Our next Young Professionals’ Network (YPN) event, on ‘Building your network: making the most of networking opportunities’, will help you deal with this. Panel speaker Will Baker, facilitator at Focal Point Training, will share some tools and techniques to help you get the most out of professional gatherings and resolve any qualms that you may have.
Andrew Dawson ACSI, CISI YPN committee member and anti-financial crime modelling manager at N26 Bank, says the YPN is a “fantastic opportunity to build up your network by meeting other young professionals in the sector who are at different stages in their careers ... you quickly realise how a spontaneous connection might become that next important contact in your career!”
Ex-Swansea University student Sam Hurst, who we spoke to in a previous Review article about networking, revealed how he overcame his fear of striking up a conversation by taking advantage of an opportunity. He waited until after a careers session, which was hosted at his university, to talk to the speaker. This led to him taking our level 2 Fundamentals of Financial Services exam, and it became a great talking point for future networking sessions.
Overcoming the fear of striking up a conversation is key to making personal and professional progress. CISI committee member and associate at MUFG Bank, Teodoro Rondo, says that YPN networking gives him the chance to “develop his knowledge and ideas”. He also says that “panellists always bring great insights to topical discussions”.
